My Thoughts on ‘American Vandal’ Season 2
Before we dive in, I just want to let everyone know that this post will contain spoilers about season two and season one. (Just covering my bases here — I’d hate to be the one that ruins it for you.) Anyway, without further ado, let’s just jump right in here…
I originally discovered American Vandal when season one came out in 2017. I usually don’t watch shows that only have one season, but several friends had recommended it to me, and I had to see what all the hype was about. So, one night, I grabbed some popcorn, snuggled into a blanket and hit play.
I was expecting a cheesy, high-school drama, but what I got was a satirical true crime series with depth. Someone spray-painting dicks may seem like a ridiculous crime (and it is), but throughout season one, Peter and Sam highlight the complexity and real-life consequences of the vandalism. Theories are thrown around, secrets are unearthed and relationships are destroyed. The season ends on a cynical note: Dylan ultimately becomes the delinquent that everyone thinks he is. Despite its gloomy finale, I loved season one (and I probably loved it because of that gloomy finale).
